Introduction

Syrian Doc Days 2024 explored the power of personal storytelling through documentary cinema. Bringing together six remarkable films, filmmakers, and audiences in Copenhagen, the festival reflected on memory, identity, and belonging while opening a dialogue on how autobiographical documentaries preserve lived experiences and shape our understanding of Syria's past and present.

Panel Debate: The Power of Self Biography

A biography is more than just a collection of facts and dates; it is a window into the life of another person, a chance to learn from their experiences, and a way to connect with their story. Self-biographies offer a unique perspective on history, culture, and the human experience, making them an invaluable tool for understanding ourselves and the world around us. History was previously distinguished by mentioning only the major events, and it was often recorded by the victors. But true history is the one that tells the story of people as individuals and communities, reflecting their actual condition through the narratives presented in daily records, art, literature, and others.

Syrian Doc Days Shorts at OFF 24

The Syrian Doc Days festival presents four short films with autobiographical content in this program. The festival's theme this year is autobiographies, giving the audience a unique opportunity to experience the personal journeys and stories of Syrian filmmakers before, during and after the Syrian revolution. For the past 7 years, Syrian Doc Days' work has been dedicated to promoting Syrian films. Their mission is to create a platform for stories that provide a nuanced and human understanding of the situation in Syria. Syrian Doc Days serves as an open window to the dynamic Syrian film and cultural scene and provides an insight into what everyday life is like for Syrians both within the country's borders and across borders. History was previously distinguished by mentioning only the major events, and it was often recorded by the victors. But true history is the one that tells the story of people as individuals and communities, reflecting their actual condition through the narratives presented in daily records, art, literature, and others.
