Freedom, Journalism & Independent Voices
Syrian Doc Days 2019 explored the themes of freedom, independent journalism, and freedom of expression in Syria through a diverse programme of documentary films and public discussions. The festival examined the realities of life under dictatorship, the courage of journalists reporting from the frontlines, the experiences of detainees and refugees, and the richness of Syria's cultural heritage. By bringing together filmmakers, journalists, experts, and audiences, the festival created a space for dialogue and reflection, demonstrating the power of documentary cinema to reveal truth, preserve memory, and amplify Syrian voices.

Debate: Freedom of Press in Syria
Syrian Doc Days is invited the audience to, meet the journalist Lina Chawaf ,Tore Rørbæk, Zenia Bredmose Henriksen and Joseph Hamood to hear from them how it is dangerous and difficult to get the news from Syria, and how we can find a solutions to protect the journalists and the corresponding reporters on ground, and what is the steps to have a free media and press in a country like Syria.
Reclame the Represination- a Different vision of Syria
Challenges and possibilities for reclaiming representations of Syria Often Syria is represented and discussed in the Danish media by non-Syrian voices and through perspectives of war and security. This seminar brings Syrian artists and intellectuals together with Danish analysts to discuss the issues of representations and perceptions of Syrian culture and society, asking if, and how, representation can be reclaimed. Do we have a distorted vision of the Syrian reality – and how can we correct this? Panelists: JAn Pet Khorot, Khalid Ksebi, Samara Sallam and Helle Malmvig
Live Concert: Syrian Traditional Music
Between Damascus and Aleppo and the other Syrian cities, you can find the variety of the traditional music, but the feelings and longing in the songs can make bridges between the people and their memories. Ibrahim Muslimani, Rihab Azar and Bakri Hemmami are coming from Syria to deliver their melodies to Denmark, In a Syrian traditional music concert.
Songs Of Separation, Film & Concert in Oslo
A mystical evening at VEGA Scene on Sept 7th. The evening started with screening of Wajd Songs of Separatio, a film taking us on a timeless journey into the majestic world of music in Syria before the war. The film then chases the paths of three passionate musicians turned refugees as they rebuild their lives in exile. They resort to their love of Sufi music to find meaning in the aftermath of destruction and atrocity. Ibrahim, one of the musicians featured in the film, will join us later along with three world-renowned Syrian musicians in a Sufi-inspired concert.
