As part of the 9th edition of Syrian Doc Days, we invite you to an evening of film and conversation.

Moreover, it explores documentary filmmaking’s role in Syria’s recent history and its potential contribution to Transitional Justice, Accountability, Documentary cinema.

 

We invite you to  a panel discussion features Waad Alkateab, Wafa Moustafa and Tawfik Sabouni.It includes Charlotte Alkhalili, with Ivan M. Nielsen as moderator.

Moreover, the conversation will explore how documentaries preserve memory and document disappearance and violence. It will also connect to themes across this year’s festival program, including memory, disappearance, accountability, displacement and returning to Syria. This context mirrors Transitional Justice, Accountability, Documentary cinema as a guiding frame for our discussion.

 Waad Alkateab will join Tawfik Sabouni, Wafa Moustafe and Charlotte Alkhalili, for a conversation moderated by Ivan M. Nielsen.

What impact can documentaries have on Syria’s transitional justice path?

How can films preserve memories and testimonies?
What role can they play in documenting disappearance and injustice?
Can documentary filmmaking contribute to truth-seeking and accountability?
And how can cinema help us understand Syria’s past while looking towards its future?
