SUMMARY:The impact of documentaries on Syria's transitional justice path
DESCRIPTION:Film screening & debate\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAs part of the 9th edition of Syrian Doc Days\, we invite you to an evening of film and conversation. \n\n\n\nMoreover\, it explores documentary filmmaking’s role in Syria’s recent history and its potential contribution to Transitional Justice\, Accountability\, Documentary cinema. \n\n\n\nThe evening begins with a screening of Maybe Tomorrow\, directed by Waad Alkateab\, highlighting Transitional Justice\, Accountability\, Documentary cinema. \n\n\n\nAdditionally\, a panel discussion features Waad Alkateab and Tawfik Sabouni. It includes Charlotte Alkhalili\, with Ivan M. Nielsen as moderator. \n\n\n\nMoreover\, the conversation will explore how documentaries preserve memory and document disappearance and violence. It will also connect to themes across this year’s festival program\, including memory\, disappearance\, accountability\, displacement and returning to Syria. This context mirrors Transitional Justice\, Accountability\, Documentary cinema as a guiding frame for our discussion. \n\n\n\nAbout the Film — Maybe Tomorrow\n\n\n\nWafa is one of thousands of Syrians who have spent years not knowing what happened to someone they love\, and that shared reality gives this story a reach far beyond the personal. Maybe Tomorrow follows Wafa with intimacy and emotional clarity as she navigates the weight of absence\, refusing to let her father’s story be forgotten. At once a deeply personal act of love and a quiet form of resistance\, the film is rooted in the everyday reality of carrying on when closure feels impossibly out of reach. \n\n\n\n. \n\n\n\nAfter the Screening: Panel Discussion\n\n\n\nFollowing the film\, Waad Alkateab will join Tawfik Sabouni\, and Charlotte Alkhalili\, for a conversation moderated by Ivan M. Nielsen. \n\n\n\nThe discussion will ask: \n\n\n\nWhat impact can documentaries have on Syria’s transitional justice path? \n\n\n\nHow can films preserve memories and testimonies? What role can they play in documenting disappearance and injustice? Can documentary filmmaking contribute to truth-seeking and accountability? And how can cinema help us understand Syria’s past while looking towards its future? \n\n\n\nThe discussion will also draw connections with other films in the Syrian Doc Days program\, including The Other Side of the Sun\, If the Year Had Only 364 Days and Notes on a Return to Syria. \n\n\n\nProgram\n\n\n\nFilm screening: Maybe Tomorrow by Waad Alkateab presents audiences with a documentary experience that reflects perseverance and resilience. The program then includes a panel discussion to explore the film’s themes\, its production context\, and its reception among diverse audiences. \n\n\n\nPanelists include Waad Alkateab\, Tawfik Sabouni\, and Charlotte Alkhalili\, each contributing perspectives on documentary cinema\, regional issues\, and audience impact. The session is moderated by Ivan M. Nielsen\, who will guide questions and facilitate dialogue. This discussion touches on Transitional Justice\, Accountability\, Documentary cinema and related questions. \n\n\n\nAdditionally\, Language: [English / Arabic / with English subtitles] \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nReserve your tickets: https://billet.empirebio.dk/billetter/38800/419363?org=141
